First Trip Proposal – Borneo – Kota Kinabalu and the Mount Kinabalu – 4500m++ escalation!!
Mount Kinabalu (Malay: Gunung Kinabalu) is a prominent mountain on the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia. It is located in the East Malaysian state of Sabah and is protected as Kinabalu National Park, a World Heritage Site. Kinabalu is the tallest peak in Borneo’s Crocker Range and is the fourth tallest mountain in the Malay Archipelago after Papua’s Puncak Jaya, Puncak Trikora and Puncak Mandala.[1] Mount Kinabalu is also the 20th tallest mountain in the world by topographic prominence.[2]
In 1997, a re-survey using satellite technology established its summit (known as Low’s Peak) height at 4,095 metres (13,435 ft) above sea level
Once Arrived in Kota Kinabalu head to Kinabalu National Park where you can spend a night before starting the trek.
The trek starts morning, with a stop overnight in a refuge in the mountain. From this refuge, you can sleep from 8pm to 2-3am, and then finish the trek for the summit. You go back same day to the national park.
We advice you to be trained (don’t bring non sportive people) and bring warm clothes, especially for the second part of the trek which starts at night.
As you might be feeling pain after the trip, we advice you to relax in Kota Kinabalu area, the beach resorts are splendid for a break.
You can do the trip in a week end, but beware of pain at work on Monday. We advice 3-4 days for this trip, and if possible that you stay for a full week at least in Borneo which offers much more to visit.
