A Lesson in Good Food for a Good Cause @ Professor Brawn’s Café
Walking into Professor Brawn’s café you immediately get the feeling that this is something a little out of the ordinary. Both of their outlets (situated in Novena and Boat Quay) feature quirky interiors done tastefully in the style of a school canteen or library. The sociable layout, colourful walls, complete with bookshelves and artwork by students at local special needs schools, and the friendly and attentive staff creates a laid back and enjoyable ambiance.
Even the menu has the feel of a textbook and in keeping with the theme you will have to refer to sections such as the ‘Marine’ or ‘Livestock’ studies for your dish of choice. Professor Brawn offers Western cuisine at mid-range but affordable prices. Their specialties include the ‘Signature Fish & Chips’ ($13.90) and the ‘Gourmet Sausage with Rosti’ ($14.90). At lunchtime you can also order a set meal including a home-made soup and a drink, prices starting from $13.90.

Refer to the ‘deserts of distinction’ for a range of tasty treats afterwards, including their delicious range of ice cream from New Zealand – leaving hungry is not something you have to worry about here.
The Professor Brawn story was started by the imagination of an autistic boy who created the character with the special powers of being ‘smart, kind and strong’. This was then the inspiration behind the business whose mission is not only affordable, high quality food but also an inclusive workforce of people from different backgrounds, abilities and ages. More than 50% of the employees suffer from disabilities, particularly autism and Professor Brawn strives to offer equality and create opportunities for those who may otherwise struggle to find work.
So if you like good food and affordable prices with a side order of philanthropy, then this is a place to visit!
