HERMES THE GIFT OF TIME EXHIBITION 2012

CELEBRATE “TIME” IN SINGAPORE AT THE HISTORIC TANJONG PAGAR RAILWAY STATION

“Hermès time does not try to master time but rather offers us the time to see and understand this ever changing world”
–Hilton McConnico.
The Singapore edition for Hermès: The Gift Of Time Exhibition is located at the historic Tanjong Pagar Railway Station at 30 Keppel Road, a 15 minutes stroll from Tanjong Pagar MRT. Hermès’ ”The gift of time” 2012, highlights the excellence reflected in the consummate skills of craftsmen saddlers, meticulous precision of watchmakers, virtuosity of the engravers and the dedication to timeless quality of all artisans and designers. The essence of the exhibition could be translated as, “Without time, nothing lasting or beautiful could be brought into being.” After the whimsical experience, rest and relax at the Hermès’ signature orange train carriage cabins on the railway platforms, and enjoy nostalgic nibbles at pop up mini food stalls.

By the Hermès’ signature orange train carriage cabins on the railway platforms, walk down memory lane with traditional Chinese desserts such as red bean soup, and familiar old school snacks like apple pie, rock bun, curry puff and bo luo kaya bun, recreations of Seng Choong’s classic pastries from Seng Choong Confectionery. The now-defunct old bakery shop at Marine Parade Central was started by the father of chef-owner Daniel Tay of Bakerzin. Savour a specialty menu of signature food and drinks crafted by the good folk of The Plain. Lounge in a library with a selection of over 30 local and international magazines for your reading pleasure at The U Café. For more childhood favourites, try Munch Munch retailing Ice Gems Butterfly, Flying Fish biscuits or cool down with Popsicle-maker Popaganda‘s fruit popsicles sorbet ice cream like France Peach Melba, Japan Matcha Mango, China Lychee Jasmine, Brazil Pineapple passion fruit, Turkey lemon olive oil and Thailand lemon grass young coconut flavours!

Hermès 2012 The Gift of Time Exhibition, designed by American artist, Hilton McConnico, for Hermès. The Gift of Time Exhibition is a traveling art installation representing the essence of time, or rather the timelessness of Hermès.  Hermès Hong Kong debuted The Gift of Time exhibition at Elements Mall, West Kowloon in June and after Singapore, the installation will continue to Lille in France for its next destination.

Blessed with a sumptuous imagination and an unsurpassed mastery of colour, McConnico creates a world imbued with a magic and poetry found in all his work. Nature remains his main source of inspiration, providing incomparable lessons in style and creativity. McConnico began his career as a designer for the famed Paris fashion houses, Yves Saint Laurent, Ted Lapidus and Balenciaga. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, he has been living in Paris since 1965. He combines a wide range of talents: painter, decorator, photographer, set designer, designer and filmmaker. His exhibition work has helped him to establish a reputation as one of the contemporary world’s most accomplished designers. He has designed many exhibitions for Hermès, for example, and created the interior design for the museum in the company’s flagship buildings in Tokyo (2001; architect: Renzo Piano) and Seoul (to be inaugurated in 2006; architect: Réna Dumas). Indulge in Hermès: The Gift of Time Exhibition and time-travel into the heart and soul of Hermès, wonder and marvel at dream-like spaces and explore the emotions, embellished by time and movement. This traveling art installation by McConnico, long-time partner of Hermès dreamt — conceptualised and designed seven rooms of whimsical artistic installation — represent Hermès journey of time  through multisensory poetic concept discoveries and experiences of time,  created in the circular walkthrough. Hermès: The Gift of Time Exhibition will leave visitors wide-eyed with disbelief and cracking with a smile.
