Both bands performed full sets on the night in support of their respective album releases, Coheed and Cambria’s ‘The Afterman’ and ‘Circa Survive’s ‘Violent Waves’. The event took place at The Coliseum, Hard Rock Hotel at Resorts World Sentosa.

With 5 studio albums previously released, having sold over 2 million copies in the US alone, Coheed and Cambria are veterans of the progressive rock scene with each of their ‘concept’ albums possessing a unique sci-fi storyline, called ‘The Amory Wars’. Written by lead singer Claudio Sanchez, previous albums have even been made into a series of comics and a full length novel.

Their tour supports their newest 2-part release ‘The Afterman’ with ‘Ascension’ released in October 2012 and ‘Decension’ in February of this year. The music tells the story of Sirius Amory, astronomer, as he explores the energy holding together the ‘keywork’ (the worlds in which it is set) and discovers it’s actually an afterlife for departed souls.

Spell out your love for Mum with gifts that matter this Mother’s Day and do good at the same time!

City Square Mall will be holding its second edition of Flea For Good, a series of flea markets for charity, with its upcoming Mother’s Day edition held on 27th and 28th April at City Square Mall’s Fountain Square on Basement 1.

Happening every last weekend of the month except in June, Flea For Good hopes to promote various social causes while encouraging shoppers to shop with a heart. A portion of proceeds collected from booth rentals will be donated to the Singapore Children’s Society for their work with needy children and disadvantaged families.

With close to 30 participating vendors, Flea For Good offers bargain hunters and handicraft lovers a wide range of affordable interesting trinkets and pre-loved products. There will also be booths by social enterprises, non-profit organisations and beneficiaries.

As part of City Square Mall’s eco-friendly practices, vendors are encouraged to provide customers with reused paper or plastic bags whenever they make a purchase. This helps to reduce packaging waste and encourage people to adopt recycling habits.

Vendors are also encouraged not to dispose unsold or unwanted items that are still in good condition. Instead, Flea For Good will serve as the collection point for these items which will be delivered to various beneficiaries. All items will be screened upon collection to ensure that they are in good condition.

Influenced by contemporary life in all its diversity, T&T boast a rich body of work in painting, sculpture, installation and product design. Their art appeals to a global audience addressing universal themes of identity, consumerism and change.

For this exhibition, Windows of Opportunity, a new series of paintings and wall reliefs will explore the sociopolitical issues behind the Punjabi diaspora, a subject of which the artists know first-hand as many of their own peers have migrated out of India in recent years. As in the past, the youth of India today desire to escape their nation and live out their fantasies in America, Europe or Australia, fantasies perpetuated by the mass media. The ‘windows of opportunity’ they seek are referenced in portraits of young individuals framed in airplane windows, waiting patiently for escape. Another witty choice of imagery hints that a difficult reality belies this dream: these portraits look to be encased in pinball machines, likening the process of getting a visa or living abroad to a never-ending game where one is thrown back and forth, jostled between reality and fantasy.

Advocating Love Concept

This restaurant is not your run-of-the mill F&B establishment in serving quality fresh food at affordable prices but its uniqueness lies in its core beliefs. We advocate love (family, friends, soul-mates and the less fortunate) forming the backbone of this restaurant’s concept. How does one reconcile a concept of restaurant that advocates love?

Pledging to this advocacy, the restaurant collaborates with different strategic partners to create “Sound of Bliss”, “Blissfully forever” and “Sharing our Bliss” events (quarterly per year) that would foster better relationships for our patrons, as meals shared have always been an activity that brings people together encourages bonding.

Blissfully Forever is designed to bring more couples together and at Blisshouse provide a one-stop service for all their wedding needs.
Our music partner Steinway Gallery Singapore allows us to create Sound of Bliss which not only seeks to revive the Jazz, Classical scene amongst youngsters but for families to spend time together over music appreciation.

Sharing our Bliss is simply giving back to the society and doing our part. Blisshouse will be adopting Singapore’s Children Society and supporting its various initiatives they have planned for year 2013.

The post event is scheduled on 5th May, to orchestrate an unforgettable music journey. We will be inviting Mei Sheum, an international pianist who boosts a long list of locally, regionally, international performances. She has worked with global and regional singers suffice to say she has developed arguably into Singapore’s finest musician. Joining forces with her will be Joanna Dong, a fine jazz musician, who has released her own album in 2008. This duo will no doubt create a magical night.

Culinary Journey

The culinary concept behind Blisshouse Theme Restaurant is a blend of modern European cuisine helmed by chef Dennis Ong. The soft spoken Singaporean repertoire with Italian, European fare is enormous having worked alongside with world renowned chefs at Siant Pierre, Les Amis and Gazebo Italian Restaurant respectively. Ong dishes out slightly modern European fare made with excellent quality ingredients and careful presentation. He is a light hand, with many dishes harbouring clear, bright flavours.

Signature dishes include, U.S.D.A. Boneless short Ribs ($34) which differs from your traditional red wine-based stew. Instead, it is clear and simple with a broth (just a few strains short of a consomme) that is full of the sweetness of vegetables counter-pointed by the savoury depth of slow-cooked beef. This interplay of contrasting flavours is also put to good use in a delicious dish of perfectly Chilean Cod ($38) which is lightly swathed in a robust veal jus. The Warm flourless Valrhona Dark Chocolate Cake ($12) is a must try. It is deep, dark, with a soft, loose crumb and simply irresistible with its accompany scoop of vanilla ice cream.

A wide selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages is prepared at the open display bar. Items on the tasty menu are in the mid-range in price starting with $18 for a full course set lunch to $ 50 for a full 3-course evening meal.

Founder & Creator

No stranger to starting and growing a business, the founder and creator of Blisshouse is Mdm Lin Deng Lim better known within the travel industry. Unassuming and soft spoken lady, single handed built and expanded her company’s market share in the travel industry with niche offering for student exchange programs since 1976. The company known as Golden Travel Services Singapore Pte Ltd, under Mdm Lin’s strong leadership and nurturing guidance has won much accolades and awards.(Tourism Entrepreneur Award 2008, Singapore Prestige Brand Award, 2007 & 2010, Golden Brand Award 2005-2006, Singapore SME award 2002-2009.

To the question why Blisshouse and its concept; “At the end of the day, the most valuable asset anyone of us can posses is 友情，亲情，爱情 and sharing our blessings with the less fortunate.”

With a week to go to the first Rockawayfest Showcase of 2013, Livescape announces the change of concert venue. The special showcase featuring American bands, Coheed and Cambria with special guests Circa Survive will now move from KL Live to the Bentley Music Auditorium in Mutiara Damansara, Petaling Jaya. “We’ve decided to move to a more intimate venue to bring both bands closer to their fans and the Bentley Music Auditorium is also engineered for better acoustics which we are certain the punters will cherish”, said Rahul Kukreja, Director of LIVE Events for Livescape.

In line with their mission of highlighting local talents, Livescape has added Malaysia’s post-hard-core phenomenon, Tres Empre into the line-up. “We are very excited to have Macbeth Footwear and one of their endorsees Tres Empre opening up for the show, we had them up on stage at Rockaway 2011 and since then, the band has gained a strong fan base. They will also be releasing their album later in the year,” he continues.

Since their inception in late 2010, Tres Empre have evolved from being a post-hard-core band to a fluid, dynamic, melodic group that adeptly blends catchy melody, charged rhythmic guitars and ambient moods. In April 2011, the band released their single called, ‘Defiance’, followed up by their sold-out debut EP entitled Division Of Dreamers in 2012. These fine lads are currently working on their first full-length album, which is scheduled for release at the end of 2013.

This show is the fourth Rockawayfest Showcase organized by Livescape and it is their first collaboration with Singapore’s, LAMC Productions. The showcases are smaller scale gigs, which lead up to the finale, Rockaway Festival 2013. Pre-sale tickets at RM120 are still available via AirAsia Redtix and its participating outlets Rock Corner and Victoria Music Centre until 23 April 2013. On concert day, tickets can be bought at the price of RM170.

New York progressive rockers Coheed AND Cambria are touring in their epic two-part, release The Afterman while Circa Survive are out and about promoting their latest album, Violent Waves. Last October, Coheed and Cambria released the latest installment of their career-spanning Amory Wars saga with Ascension, the first part of their double album The Afterman. Part two of the album, Descension, which made its debut on the 5th of February. Violent Waves is the fourth studio album by Circa Survive and it was released late last year. The album was recorded in a span of a week and proudly produced by the band.

Opening Reception in the presence of the artist:
Friday 3 May 2013 19.00 – 21.00

Ota Fine Arts is pleased to announce the solo exhibition of Yeesookyung, the Korean artist’s first in Singapore. She has been showing a rich variety of conceptual works, based on her country’s cultural memories and a common sense of her people in the present time. “Flame” comprises a series of ceramic sculptures, scroll paintings and cinnabar drawings on Korean paper.

From ceramics villages throughout Korea, Yeesookyung collects and sieves through their discarded remains to piece together fragments of ceramic wastage, smashed leftovers from earthenware flawed in the eyes of master potters. Yet the glazed pure white and deep jade-green tints that these Celadon ceramics are still so well-known for acquire a new hue by the artist’s hand: she reassembles these Translated Vases by gilding them with fine 24 carat gold leaf.

Although touched with glints of golden antiquity, these newfound sculptural montages are freed from specific historical referents, genres or conventions. The bulbous vases become highly suggestive: they may be the ample, elegant curves of a woman’s body, or the contorted abstractions of pain. By allowing these newly configured ceramics to depart from the bounds of their native Korean ceramic cultures, Yeesookyung’s transformation of their form yields to a translation into the experimental and the contemporary.

With Translated Vases and other works, Yeesookyung remains near to the art historical heritage of her home peninsula, while she speaks to it with new perspective. Her Flame Variation scroll paintings are engendered from the Goguryeo tomb paintings found in North Korea, but their mythologies are redrawn into fantastical amalgams of Judeo-Christian and Eastern religious iconography. But just as much as they are a postmodern patchwork of icons, the striking symmetrical composition of Flame Variation otherwise lends the work the graver tones of a Medieval morality painting.

So despite this sometimes light-hearted play with multiple and contemporaneous allusions, an austere sense of spirituality is conserved at the very heart of Yeesookyung’s work. This is arguably most evident in her cinnabar Flame drawings, cinnabar ink itself being a medium used by soothsayers to draw charms against malevolent spirits. Remarkably, the artist’s process is bound to the ground—she has completed the Flame series on her knees. Yeesookyung has likened this way of drawing to bowing in penitence or prayer, and if indeed some spiritual energy is delicately transferred to the Korean paper beneath her, it may be evinced by the pulsations and wave lengths emanating from the bronzed flames.

Yeesookyung’s ardent devotion to her work is indeed unparalleled in Korea, and Ota Fine Arts is delighted to present her solo exhibition in Gillman Barracks, Singapore.

About the Artist

Born in 1963 in Korea, Yeesookyung studied painting at the College of Fine Arts of the National University in Seoul, where she continues to work today. She has since completed residencies at Villa Arson, Apex Art and the Bronx Museum, and her work has been shown globally at the 6th Gwangju Biennale (2006), ARCO 07, the 5th Liverpool Biennial (2008), the 2009 Vancouver Biennale and the 2010 Busan Biennale. Most recently, Yeesookyung has been featured in notable exhibitions including “Women In-Between: Asian Women Artists 1984-2012” at the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, the “2012 Korea Art Prize” at the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Seoul, and “The Collectors Show: Weight of History” at the Singapore Art Museum.
